You raise me up!!!

You raise me up... up up and away!!!

That is the title to my project, a 3D hot air ballon that I made from the Svgcuts High Skies Kit.
I fell in love with the kit as soon as I saw it, and even though it was one of my first 3D projects, I just had to make it.
I found the perfect opportunity, when I read the challenge that Katerina gave us over at the Scrapgreece blog, for the month of April.
We were to be inspired by a song, the lyrics to a song, a melody etc and create our LO or project accordingly.
The song I chose was "You raise me up" by Westlife (although they were not the original artists).

So, I took the Svgcuts files, and enlarged them by 180%, so my hot air balloon is a whoping 11.5 inches tall!
I dressed it in pink and turquoise, glitter and bows, and hung the cute faces of my two adorable nieces underneath with a banner that reads "you raise me up".
These photographs were on the door of my fridge, so they are the first faces I see in the morning, and not matter how badly I slept, of how tired I might still feel, just seeing their smiles, raises me up!

Hope you enjoy my project, and hope you come over to Scrapgreece to play with us this month.
The challenge is open to all greeks around the globe!

Thank you for stopping by!

  1. Love your project. What cutter did you use and how did you enlarge it 180% and still get it on the mat? I really like the photo's hanging from the bottom! Aw...such creative minds....I only copy! Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Hi Ruth!
thank you for your wonderful comments!
I have a pazzles, and I cut this on the regular 12X12 mat.
The pieces for the balloon, inside and outside, fit two at a time on the mat. I would have liked it larger, but at 180% those pieces end up close to 12 inches each, so that was the maximum I could go.
The only tricky part was the decorative banner that goes around (the one cut out of the green), the file is 4 pieces in a row, and you can only fit 3 on the mat, so I cut the shape apart and cut 3 in a row times two, plus two singles to complete the banner... does that make sence?????

    2. I am looking forward to trying something new! I have a e-clips and I see Kimberly has the same machine and she did it and figured out all the math stuff! Thanks for answering me to see if I can copy!!!!

    3. I am having some problems with separating the pieces so that I will have only 2 on the mat at that size. How did you do it and keep all the score lines? The pieces are all so close together that I can't select just the ones that I want and keep the lines. I have never had so much trouble before on other projects.

    4. Sorry I missed this comment of yours Ruth. Did you come right with the files???
You have to "ungroup" and "break shape apart" a few times to get the score lines to seperate from the actual piece so you can move it.
The pieces are grouped together, the score lines are grouped together...then ALL of them in a group again.
So if I remember correctly.... I "ungrouped" at least 3 times.!

  2. This is beautiful love your colours.

    1. Thank you Suzanne,

  6. Stunning! Just bought that kit as the papers are divine :)

  7. Καταπληκτικό, Νεκταρίνι!!!

  8. The colors of your ballon are so cute, and adding the pictures is creative. After seeing that you enlarged the balloon (awesome idea), I did it myself. But I wasn't aware that the ecal software would let me enlarge by percentage, until after I did the math (I did a lot scaling, and geometry to make sure the dimensions were proportionally correct) :/ I was able though to get the banner part on one mat, by rotating the image 45 degrees and enlarging it to the full size of the mat. This fit around the balloon.

    1. Hi Kimberly! Glad you got it right in your software too...
Too tell you the truth, I have ruined my mat.. and I was cutting on a surface 12X 10 more or less... so that is why I couldn't fit the banner in even diagonally... but I didn't think of the diagonal option when Ruth asked me...
Thank you for pointing it out! WOuld love to see your balloon too!
